Day 2 Ed Summer Charleston SC, TEA educator/organizers from the United Education Association and Robertson County Education Association
The UEA is a local affiliate of the TEA and the NEA, the Tennessee Education Association and the National Education Association. In the South, we use the term “Association”, but we are actually part of a 3 million member labor union, the largest labor union in America and the largest labor union in the WORLD!
Locally, educators often focus on the immediate day to day survival concerns, like salary, work conditions and human resource concerns.
As we step back to view the bigger picture, the institutional oppression that maintains low wages, poverty and the lack of support for our students and even our own families comes into view.
Teachers from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina are in Charleston, SC to learn to become better communicators and organizers at NEA’s ED Summer.
In a democracy, votes rank money. When 3 million NEA members vote, and influence their circles of influence to vote, negative impacts can be forestalled and positive changes can be implemented from the local to the state and the federal realms.
Public school educators, administrators, Education Support Professionals (like teacher assistants and office staff), as well as substitute teachers are eligible for membership.
We want you and your voice to help change the institutional policies and biases that are detrimental to the wellbeing of our students and our communities.
