Elizabeth "Liz" Marable
UEA PRESIDENT
Liz began her career in education in 1983 with the Memphis City Schools teaching high school mathematics and coaching girls sports. She is highly qualified to teach mathematics grades 7-12. Her specialty is closing math gaps and breaking down concepts for all learners. Liz truly believes every child is welcome and deserves a free and equitable education.
Throughout her career, Liz has served in a variety of capacities. She is most proud of the incredible number of former students and athletes that have followed in her footsteps as teachers and coaches. As an athletic coach, she believes her success was due to her strong teaching skills on the court and breaking down the game just as she does in the classroom. She has received numerous teaching and coaching awards. Two she is most proud of is the Vanguard award and the Educator Trailblazer award. Liz was deeply influenced by her mathematics teachers and her basketball coach at Ridgeway Jr High/High School.
Liz has been a career union member and held numerous leadership positions starting as her building association representative, board of director, PECCA team representative which helped to gain historic pay raises. She was appointed by the TEA president as a member organizer. During her presidency, UEA achieved a historic first-time victory for Collaborative Conferencing. A victory that she credits the UEA board of directors and the building association representatives with.
As a passionate advocate for children and public-school educators, she attends city, county, state legislative meetings and you can always find her at local school board meetings to ensure a strong voice for all public-school educators and students.
