Who We Are

As united members, we possess the power to shape our profession, influence policies, and drive meaningful change. We advocate for better school conditions and work towards resolving community issues tied to education. Representing UEA members in Labor Relations, we stand as trusted professionals who are best positioned to make decisions about schools and classrooms to ensure student success.

Our mission is clear: to guarantee that educators have a voice in shaping education policies. Our strength lies in our numbers—together, we are more powerful advocates for public education.

UEA is affiliated with the Tennessee Education Association and the 3 million-member National Education Association. The members of the United Education Association are public school educators, librarians, counselors, coaches, school psychologists and psychiatrists, nurses, and administrators. We are proud to include among our membership all categories of education support professionals: SCS building engineers, education assistants and paraprofessionals, and school secretaries.

How does UEA advocate for you?

  • We are the educators who help children learn to read, write, think, solve problems, and dream BIG as we prepare them for the future.
  • We are the counselors who listen to our students and help them solve problems and assist in their preparation for college and vocational programs.
  • We are the coaches, musicians, and artists who teach children to shoot a basketball, play the trumpet, sing a song, and illustrate their ideas.
  • We are the school nurses who bandage skinned knees, teach children healthy life habits and provide the on-site medical services students require.
  • We are the library specialists who open the door to a world of information.
  • We are the school psychologist and social workers who help children and families cope with life challenges and promote their social emotional health and well-being.
  • We are the secretaries who manage the office, answer the phones and respond to students’ and parents’ questions and concerns.
  • We are the professionals to whom our community entrusts its children every school day. We nurture and help them grow to be productive, contributing members of our ever changing society.
  • We are the support system that helps teachers teach.
  • We are the special education professionals who provide services for children with special needs.
