Danette Stokes, UEA President

Professional educator and public school advocate for Shelby County Schools, Danette Stokes is the President of the United Education Association of Shelby County and serves as the Tennessee Education Association Board of Director for District 15.

Danette Stokes is the official spokeswoman for the UEA, where her duties include leading the association’s efforts at the local level. She will preside over the Association, Representative Assembly, Board of Directors, and Executive Committee meetings. Additionally, she will represent UEA educators at the state level through her lobbying and networking efforts with the Tennessee Education Association, UEA’s state affiliate.

The second-grade educator has been a classroom teacher for 22 years. She has served at the local, state, and national level in a variety of leadership positions, including UEA Communications, UEA Board of Director Elementary position, UEA Elections Chairperson, TEA Resolutions Committee Chairperson, TEA Operations and Rules Committee member, Delegate for TEA and NEA RA, NEA Resolutions Committee member, NEA Pre-UniServ Academy-Graduate, SCS SAFE Re-entry Taskforce Member, SCS Retention Taskforce Member.

Danette holds a Master’s Degree from The University of Memphis in Curriculum and Instruction and an Education Specialist Degree from Union University in Administration and Supervision. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In her spare time, she enjoys running and fundraising for her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
